Black Wednesday at The Station

Hi all
Well blow me down The Station has gawn all posh!
We haven't been there for a while, but we descended down there on Saturday to see Black Wednesday, a fabulous three piece from Birmingham.

The guys from The Glorious Dead met the guys at Queens Hall, Nuneaton so we thought, as we were local , we would pop by to lend our support.

We had an awesome night. It was great to see old friends from way back when and to listen to such an eclectic mix of covers played in their own unique way. Their rocked up version of Cameo's 'Word Up' has to be heard to be believed - Awesome! They also covered System of a Down, Anthrax, Pantera, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, The Darkness, Muse to name but a few. (That's code for I can't remember anymore, I knew I should have written this on Sunday, but I was too hung over!)

Besides getting everyone up to shake their bootie, they built up a great rapport with the crowd and really went down well.

I particularly liked their own stuff, well constructed, well written, well played!

The band is made up of Dale, on guitar and vocals, his fingers begin to blur the riffs he plays are so complex, an outstanding musical talent, with a brilliant voice too!

Mark on bass is another great talent who compliments Dales lead with some well defined playing and really melodic backing vocals.

Last but not least is Keigo, a master on the drums, who puts on a fabulous show and provides a solid tight backline for the guys to work with.

You can tell this is a well rehearsed and practiced band, very professional and solid.

Black Wednesday are through to the semi finals in the Rock and Blues Battle of the Bands and I'd like to think they are in with a great chance. They have some stiff competition in Sweet Seduction and Karac, but those of us in the know are never surprised that it is not always the bands with the most talent that get through. I sincerely wish them well and hope the competition is fair and just.

Thanks guys for a wonderful night. I really had a fab time and it was good to meet you at last.

Festival Line Ups 2007

Hi all sorry it's been a while since I wrote. We've been having fun, seeing great bands, listening to fab demos and generally having a good time. Watch out for my new reviews very shortly.............

In the meantime as festival season approaches I thought I let you know who's where this year. Remember not to pitch your tent too close to the loos, I promise you will live to regret this seemingly great idea by the end of the weekend!!! (Apparently Glastonbury are offering recycled loo roll this year, handy if you forget to take yours.)

Go for the higher ground, away from the paths and don't forget to take a banner or flag so that you can easily recognise your tent when you are staggering back at the end of the night.

Of course these are all the big, somewhat commercial 'fezzies' so expect to pay over the odds for food and drink. Better still take your own, but obviously you have to be a bit ninja, a bit stealth warrior, a little bit whoo and a little bit whaa and don't get caught taking it in the arenas!

The mother of missing Madeleine McCann has appealed to whoever is holding the three-year-old not to hurt her.
Madeleine is believed to have been abducted from the family's holiday apartment in Portugal on Thursday.

Her mother Kate McCann, from Leicestershire, said: "Please let us know where to find Madeleine or put her in a place of safety."

Portuguese police have widened their search to nine miles (15km) from the Algarve village of Praia da Luz.

Mrs McCann, who had asked to speak to the media, said: "We would like to say a few words to the person who is with our Madeleine, or has been with Madeleine. 'Madeleine is a beautiful, bright, funny and caring little girl. She is so special. Please, please, do not hurt her.'

Speaking with husband Gerry at her side, she added: "We beg you to let Madeleine come home. We need our Madeleine."

Her final sentence was in Portuguese - "Por favor, devolva a nossa menina" - which means "Please give our little girl back".

Pyjamas

About 50 volunteers have been helping to search the area for signs of the girl, including the clothes she was wearing when she vanished.

Her family confirmed she was wearing white pyjama bottoms with a small floral design and a short-sleeved pink top with a picture of Winnie the Pooh character Eeyore.

The pyjamas, bought in Marks and Spencer last year, had the Eeyore written in capital letters.

Police have a sketch of a suspect but will not elaborate on their evidence "to safeguard the child's life".

Portuguese police say they believe Madeleine is alive

The toddler is believed to have been taken from her bed while her parents were eating at a nearby restaurant and regularly checking on her and their two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie.

BBC correspondent Robert Hall said he had been out with a volunteer search team - made up mainly of British expats and tourists - on Monday.

Although they said they had not been well briefed by police, they did know one item they were looking out for was Madeleine's clothing, our correspondent said.

Dave Felton, an expat from Manchester who lives in the village, said: "People are still hoping that we don't actually find her and that she is safe and sound somewhere."

Around the marina in the nearby town of Lagos, maritime police have been searching amid claims that a man was seen with a small girl in the area.

Marina worker Joao Riveiro said a number of officers had been searching and making inquiries.

"Police without uniforms moved around a lot about two days ago. They moved around and were asking questions."

Officers have taken records of all boats booked into the marina between 27 April and 6 May.

Along the nearby coast police have checked a cave complex at Ponta da Piedade, with the help of volunteer canoeists.

'Vague sketch'

Police, who have received thousands of calls, have not reported any progress in their investigation since saying on Saturday they thought Madeleine had been abducted but was alive.

They are coming under increasing pressure to give more information, but correspondent Robert Hall said it was not the style of the Portuguese police to provide constant updates to the media and public.

Local mayor Julio Barroso told BBC News 24 work was going on behind the scenes to try to find Madeleine.

"Our judicial police are following all the signs, and they are working very hard for all these days and they have many many people involved," he said.

He said about 130 people were working on the case, including 80 detectives, some of whom had come from the capital Lisbon. The team also involved local and maritime police, firefighters, volunteers and members of the Red Cross, he said.

When asked how he felt about what had happened he said: "In Portugal we say 'hope is the last thing to lose'."

At the weekend, officers were stopping cars on roads and searching abandoned homes and scrubland in the surrounding Algarve countryside.

Airports across the country are on alert and police believe the toddler is still in Portugal.

They have been showing locals what one called "a vague sketch" of a suspect.

It is believed the image shows only the rear view of a man.

Mrs McCann found the outside shutter and window to Madeleine's room had been opened and her daughter missing shortly before 2200 local time on Thursday.

Mark Warner managing director David Hopkins said in having a meal nearby in what was a "very safe environment", the McCanns had "done nothing that I'm sure many parents wouldn't have done".

A spokesman for the company said two holiday bookings at the resort had been cancelled and six had asked to go to another site.

Hi all,

I had a great time last week looking after Mad Dog Studios and I met some really cool bands.

First in were Emily Shute, a seemingly quiet bunch of really lovely youngsters who fired up in the room next to me and boy was I surprised - even without their drummer who couldn't make rehearsals- they were absolutely outstanding.
I couldn't resist singing along with them, their rendition of Snow Patrol's " If I Lay Here" was excellent! I believe they have their first gig soon so best of luck to Emily and the guys, I'm sure you'll knock 'em dead. (Unfortunately I haven't got a link to them at the moment so if anyone can help give me a buzz please.)

Next in were 80 Shilling a fantastic Chester rock band, with a kick ass sound and hip hip hurray a wonderful female lead vocalist with an awesome voice. Go sister! You can catch them at The Chester Bells on 1 June 2007 or at The Beehive 3 August 2007. Both venues are really friendly so don't be a stranger have yourself a rocking night.

Also in were Nova Crome a great bunch of Chester lads. I had a real laugh with them, especially trying to find equipment for them, but bless them they were very patient with me. I really enjoyed their unique mix of indie, grunge sounds with soulful, melodic vocals. Follow the link and have a listen and see what you think. The guys are playing The Barfly in Liverpool on 14 May 2007 and are also in the running for this years Road to V Festival so get your votes in.

Unfortunately The Glorious Dead didn't get through their heat for the Rock and Blues Festival, but they played a blinder and made some great contacts.
I look forward to meeting the other bands from their heat when they play up this way.

Hi all

I am writing this whilst looking after Mad Dog Studios, cos Eddie, Wal and Chris aka The Glorious Dead are playing at The Queens Hall, Nuneaton in the 2nd Annual, Rock and Blues Battle of the Bands Competition. Ooh eer Missus!

What a superb chance for The Glorious Dead to be in the running to appear at the best Rock and Blues Custom Shows around.
I am so knocked out by the fact that they have been chosen, as there will be reps from the media, record companies, music journalist, etc. etc. so it's hopefully gonna lead to bigger and beter things for them. They truly deserve it.

The guys are so talented and create a great vibe, because they have so much fun together which shines through on stage and off . Eddie writes and composes all their original stuff and even when they do a cover, they deliver it in there own unique kick ass sound! Rocking!

I am with them in spirit and if you are local please pop down and support them cos they are a long way from home. You will not be disappointed - I promise.

Presumed Innocent are a three piece band from the UK, that play classic/ prog rock. They recently contacted me and asked me to listen to their track :

Wow, what great composition! The track begins with a haunting melodic vibe that builds up to a powerful tight sound.
With a vast mix of instruments from keyboards, very catchy guitar riffs, solid percussion section and a fab rhythm and bass mix,
you can defo tell that these guys have worked hard to create such a good track.

Ady, Clive and Martin have spent the last seven years composing and reworking their sounds until they felt ready to release their lastest album:

If you like big powerful rock anthems, done in a modern up to date style then The Stirring will not disappoint. You can see them next at Sussex Uni in Brighton on 16 March 2007.

Their single " So this is how it feels" is pumping with a tight backline, in your face guitar riffs, powerful vocals, keyboards and melodic lyrics. At times the vocals and guitar sound makes the U2 influence evident and is sure to lead to great things.

You can tell these guys have done their homework. Originally from Australia the boys have settled in Brighton and are doing really well, with frequent gigs and festivals, radio play and interviews you are sure to catch them out and about soon.

I have been asked to review The Times new Breathe New Life EP so here goes:

It is inevitable that being 4 guys from Manchester that play rock/ indie music Joe Public will automatically assume The Times are another 'Oasis like' band. Listen up people nothing could be further from the truth...

With their kiss ass rock/indie vibe, intelligent construction of musical talent and powerful lyrics, these tracks incorporate the big guitar sounds of rock legends old and new. There really is no comparison.... These guys rock!!!

Frontman Dylan has a great vocal range and has a raw sexy edge to his voice...very nice!

Joe on drums and Mark on bass, provide a tight rhythm section with some kicking drum rolls, stomping beats and groovy bass riffs...most excellent!

Rik on lead guitar, lets his fingers do the talking and sends shivers down me timbers with his Vai/ Satriani-esque solos...awesome!

Do yourself a favour and go visit The Times today.
I promise you will not be disappointed.

Glastonbury Ticket Fiasco

Hi I am probably gonna upset alot of people here but this latest marlarky about photo ID just to register for Glastonbury tickets seems a big pain in the a*se to me. There's not even a guarantee that you get a ticket and apparently people who have registered and don't get a ticket are assured that all their details and documents will be destroyed - how do we know?

Isn't there a big song and dance about ID fraud being the biggest growing crime at the moment? Surely if unscrupulous people are making a fortune selling on Glastonbury Tickets, whats to stop someone making a fortune selling peoples documentation??
You know what they say 'Every Man Has His Price'.
Ok I know I am probably over reacting and being proper paranoid but ............
You Never Know..........................
I have long thought that Glastonbury has become too mainstream and corporate and this is just another reason for me to give it a miss.
I much prefer the smaller festivals and rallys where you can discover new talent and up and coming bands. Wonder who I'll find this year?

Would you believe it Good ole Cliff is this years festive hero! I think the Christmas number one should be festive and in the spirit of the Season. I still can't forgive the British record buying public, for making that stupid depressing verson of 'Mad World', or whatever it was called, number one instead of The Darkness a few years back. Last year they were forcefed the X factor winner.

Come on people, the music charts should be dominated by the people's choice, not some corporate industry boss telling us what we should be listening to. I meet, listen to, discover real musicians and song writers, week in, week out. Get out there, go see the local bands gigging, trawl the internet and check out new sounds. Festivals and biker gigs are great places to discover raw talent. Let's keep it real!!

Lawsuit filed against My Space!

Bloggers beware!

Allegedly a US record company is to sue My Space, for not exercising more vigorous controls over people using copyrighted music and videos in their My Space sites. My Space have clear guidelines about using copyrighted content on your site, so is it right that they are punished or should it be the individuals who post? My Space has a policy in place that will ban you if you are persistantly downloading copyrighted content.

When an artists had sweated blood, made a pact with the devil or just plain lost everything and everyone trying to make it, why should they give their creation away free? The record company is understandably protecting their artists.

Are people just sharing good times, great music, fab events, networking new bands etc.?
Is it always obvious on these media broadcasting sites that something is copyrighted?
If the downloads are on 'sharing' site and they have the artists permission to be copied fair enough. e.g bands use 'You Tube' as a form of networking their music.

A word of warning check the copyright content before you post, no matter which networking host you are using, otherwise you might find yourself in the naughty corner forever!!!

And a Great Time was Had by All

Hello again I want to tell you about some other great bands.
Check out the grit, a loud and lively punk rock'n' roll band, with gravity defying hairstyles and a real rapport with their audience, I saw them at the Scarborough Rock in the Castle Festival, along with many others including Roadstar and Plan A 'hey ho, hey hey ho' .

The Wildhearts were headlining, it was great to see the guys back together again and kickin' ass as usual! Not sure about the guitar smashing though!
It was one of the coldest gigs I have ever been to, with the North Wind blowing round me bits, but the bands were awesome and it was well worth facing the elements. If you were there feel free to add your comment.

If you ever get the chance to see Roadstar (Previously Hurricane Party) please go check them out.
I saw them at Rock in the Castle in Scarborough. These guys are awesome and always bring the house down.
The guys are touting for your vote for the Best New Band at the Classic Rock Awards.
Their sounds are a modern take on pure classic rock think Led Zep, AC/DC, Aerosmith etc.

Top Gear Crash

Good to see Richard 'hamster' Hammond doing well. I have looked after road traffic accident victims and I suspect he has a long road to travel. He is doing so well and is extremely lucky not to have more permanent injuries. Alot of people have been critical of the programme and are saying that an incident like this was inevitable. What do you think?

What ever the rights and wrongs I am very glad he is on the mend, he is a likeable presenter and I enjoy the banter with co-hosts.

Fun at the Swinging Arm

Spent a superb night in The Swinging Arm on Saturday. The boys from Throathorse put on an awesome gig. Me and Eddie from Mad Dog Studios provided the sound and lights, although its supposed to be work I always enjoy these nights. The lads from Throathorse provide a unique style of wit and self derision, whilst blasting out great classics such as Hashpipe, Teenage Dirtbag, Monkeywrench any many more including Motorhead, Green Day and Feeder covers. Always a pleasure to work with, Great job guys!

Firebird 3 Rally - getting back to the music!

Hi all

Well thought it was about time I got back to the music!

Phoenix Knights MCC put on a truly awesome rally. The atmosphere was superb, great bikes to swoon over,

silly games, trade stalls. a ride out and lots of fun.

The DJ Si was a scream, welcoming rally virgins in his own unique style .

The Llandudno based youngsters from Casket provided the Metal.

Artazian from Chester surprised everybody, when their angelic looking beauty who fronts them, sang like the devil.

Finally, the scousers from Skinny Lizard proved to be the darlings of the weekend.

The headliners provided everybody with the excuse to get up and boogie to classics like Sweet Home Alabama and other

Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Pink Floyd and Skynyrd covers.

Look out for next years rally, it really is a blast xxx

School dinner fiasco

I have just seen the news about mums feeding their kids burgers through the school railings, in defiance of the governments healthy school meals policy. Whilst I am not condoning a nanny state, it seems to me that this is at last a sensible policy, aimed at prolonging our kids lives and ensuring the next generation have some understanding of a healthy balanced diet. Are these women really doing the best for their children? I seriously doubt it! School children should not have the last say, who is the adult here? These parents, whilst having the right to choose, should think further than just pleasing their child. A good mother wants to provide healthy nutritious fuel to her children, to ensure that they have the correct building blocks to keep their children growing strong and healthy. Grease, saturated fats, sugar, additives and meat derivitives should not, in my opinion, be considered suitable for lunch everyday. Hi Ladies

Good to see the Fashion Industry strike a blow for natural body shape. The Milan Fashion show has banned models who are too skinny. Apparently nearly a third of those who took part last year may not be able to model. We all know it is not healthy to be overweight, but it is just as unhealthy to be too skinny. Isn't it about time we rejoice in our womanhood and not try to achieve the unnatural body shapes of these so called roles models. Alot of the girls are naturally slim I am sure, but most of us have to ensure we stay trim by eating a healthy balanced diet and by keeping active. Three cheers for love handles! (A bet the fellas think so too.)

Lost in the jungle

What's going on with Lost ? (Channel 4 Tuesday night)

They are all running around the jungle willy nilly. I thought it was supposed to be full of scary monsters!

That said I do like all the twists and turns in the plot. I was disappointed at the end of the first series and

I have to be honest a bit bored at the beginning of series two. At last things are picking up again.

Isn't Michael a naughty boy? What will he get up to next week?

He is definitely leading them into a trap don't you think?

Hi and welcome to my first ever blog.

I would like to share my thoughts with you about lots of cool stuff.

First of all I would like you to check out a fantastic band called The Glorious Dead. These guys ROCK!

Despite the name they are not extreme metal. They write their own stuff and also do fantastic covers in their own unique style.

I love 'em I have been fortunate enough to do the lighting for one of their gigs and take some of their promo shots.

I also took their live shots when they were at a charity biker gig.
